The Otakikpo Joint Venture has entered into partnership with John Hopkins Centre for Communications Programmes to implement a N143.96m community connect programme for host communities where the JV operates.

In his remarks at a meeting in Abuja, the Chairman of Green Energy International Limited, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe, stated that the objective of the community connect programme was to improve the quality of life of beneficiaries by ensuring access to basic health care, promoting the adoption of healthy behaviours and empowering young people to achieve their aspirations.

Green Energy International Limited is the operator of the Otakikpo marginal field.

Adegbulugbe explained that the partnership with John Hopkins University was based on the firm’s bid to expand its corporate social responsibility activities, particularly on community health interventions in Rivers State.

He said, “Otakikpo joint venture is partnering John Hopkins Centre for Communications Programmes to implement a community connect programme with the sum of N143.96m, equivalent of $399,888.

“The project would improve knowledge and functional literacy on key household practices. It would also ensure primary healthcare centres in host communities are functional and well equipped to respond to the health needs of the communities.”

He explained that the project was expected to run for a period of two years with possibility of expansion to other communities if the pilot project proved successful.

Adegbulugbe further told journalists on the sidelines of the meeting that negotiations for the commencement of engineering, procurement and construction of the one million barrels per day Otakikpo marginal field in Oil Mining Licence 11 would be concluded in four weeks.

In April this year, the Federal Government gave approval to Green Energy International Limited, the operator of the field, to construct the one million barrel capacity onshore terminal.

He stated that the marginal field would increase Nigeria’s crude production and that negotiations for the commencement of the EPC on the field had reached advanced stage.
