THE men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army has arrested two suspected fake policemen, who allegedly trafficked 50 bags of cannabis sativa also known as Indian hemp.
The suspects identified as Nze Ezenwa, 55, and Stephen Sunday, 35, were said to have been arrested at Isua military checkpoint in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday while they were on their way to Abuja to allegedly deliver the illegal products.
Parading the suspects at the Owena Barracks, Akure, the state capital, on Thursday, the Provost of the Brigade, Major Emontimi Cleopas, said the suspects were arrested on transit from Owo to Abuja in a white Toyota Sienna bus with Registration Number RBC 334 BG loaded with the marijuana.
He said, “At the time of arrest, the suspects were masked and dressed in Nigeria Police pullover. They replaced the original vehicle number plate with fake Nigeria Police vehicle number NPF 1651D and mounted with siren in order to divert attention of security agencies.“The following items were recovered from them, four mobile phones, wallets and the sum of N148,300 only.”
Major Cleopas also disclosed that the men of the brigade, deployed internal security operations in the state at Omotosho military checkpoint along Benin – Ore expressway intercepted two vehicles with 82 bags of Indian hemp on July 19, 2021 at about 4am, heading towards Lagos.
