The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has observed with concern that the initial requirements for the students loan scheme will exclude many deserving students in the country.
Speaking on Channels TV on Thursday, NANS President, Lucky Emonefe, appealed to President Bola Tinubu to relax the eligibility criteria for the students loan scheme.
On Tuesday, the launch of the scheme was postponed again in order to fine-tune the modalities of its implementation.
The NANS president explained that when they visited Mr President, they talked about the criteria for accessing the loan, stressing that the intention of the loan is having students to access it.
He added that those who cannot afford education fees and charges during the course of their educational process would have access.
He observed, “this access must be open to everybody. When you look at those criteria initially put, there are stringent conditions such as having a level 12 civil servant, a lawyer that has served for 10 years.”
