The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the conclusion of an autopsy on the remains of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.
The Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the developments to our correspondent in an exclusive telephone interview on Thursday.
“Mohbad’s corpse has been exhumed today (Thursday), and medical experts have successfully concluded the autopsy on the corpse tonight. Our concern as the police is the outcome of the autopsy, as we’re expecting the result soon,” Hundeyin said.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the exhumation of Mohbad’s corpse on Thursday.
It also confirmed the arrest of the nurse who reportedly administered an injection on Mohbad prior to his demise on Tuesday, September 12,
However, responding to further enquiry by one of our correspondents concerning arrests made by the police in connection with the late singer’s death, Hundeyin added, “I can’t answer questions on the arrests yet, because I don’t have that update. However, the nurse is in our custody; I can confirm that
the circumstances leading to the death of Mohbad, who died on Tuesday at the age of 27, has yet to be ascertained.
Earlier, the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Ikeja, established that Mohbad’s corpse was in the hospital.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Adetokunbo Fabamwo, said, “Yes, they are in the LASUTH premises but at the Pathology Department, which works for the Lagos State Government, handles cases like this. There is a Chief Medical Examiner who can relate any detail about it.”
Recall that the acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, had earlier issued a directive to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Mohbad.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made the development known in an official correspondence on Saturday.
Adejobi said, “The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructing him to initiate a swift and comprehensive investigation into the tragic passing of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.
“This directive was conveyed during a brief but crucial discussion at the Police Airwing Hangar, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, September 16, 2023.”
In Delta, hundreds of youths in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of the state on Thursday held a rally in honour of Mohbad, demanding for justice for the late musician.
They called relevant authorities in the country, especially the Nigeria Police to conduct a thorough investigation on the sudden death of the musician and as well as prosecute whoever might be culpable in the overall interest of justice.
The protesting youths had kicked off the rally at the Awenayeri filling station by Bendel Estate junction along Airport road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area before marching to other parts of the metropolis just as they played some tracks of the musical records of the deceased musician.
They also demanded that Mohbad’s father should be invited to explain his reasons for the rush in burying his son, saying they suspected foul play with the way the father of the deceased musician had been talking.
Meanwhile, fans of the late singer embarked on a candlelight procession on Lagos streets to honour him on Thursday.
The procession which began at Lekki Phase 1 moved to Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Singer, Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, performed at the candlelight procession of the late singer while David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was also present.
The fans turned up for Mohbad’s candlelight procession with white shirts and banners bearing the late singer’s photos.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Youth Parliament has expressed sadness over the untimely demise of the popular singer.
According to a press statement signed by the Speaker of NYP, Dr Azeezat Yishawu, Mohbad was not just a remarkable talent but also a source of inspiration and pride for the Nigerian youth.
