Ikeja Electric Plc has partnered with Slot Foundation to train 40 young persons in a skill acquisition and capacity building empowerment scheme.
The power firm described the scheme, tagged Youth Empowerment Programme, as one of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives designed to empower youths who are mainly residents of its host communities.
It said the selected youths underwent a three-month training programme at the Slot Academy where they were trained in computer, phones and accessories maintenance and repair as well as business entrepreneurship ideas web design, hoisting and maintenance.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony for the participants, the Chief Executive Officer, Ikeja Electric, Anthony Youdeowei, said the company had demonstrated its commitment to improving the quality of lives of residents of its areas of operation since inception.
Stressing the need to empower young people, he said, “This effort is also a crucial contribution to poverty reduction, which is the whole idea behind Ikeja Electric’s support for this laudable project.”
