Osun new Commissioner of Police, Umar Abba assumes office

Mohammed Umar Abba, the new Commissioner of Police, posted to the Osun State Command has resumed duties.

This was made known in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola on Friday.

Opalola said CP Umar Abba resumed duties on Friday, February 16, 2024.

She disclosed that CP Umar Abba’s posting to the state was sequel to the recent promotion of the former Commissioner of Police, Bzigu Kwazhi to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police.

According to the statement, CP Umar Abba “was born on June 22, 1965, in Tundun Wada local government area of Kano State.

“The Commissioner of Police is a holder of B.A in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano State and did his one year NYSC at the Old Anambra Police Command.

“He was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Cadet ASP).

“CP Mohammed Umar Abba has served in various capacities in different States of the country.”

The statement also disclosed that Umar Abba, “was a Sectional Head, Counter Terrorism and General Investigation Section, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Headquarters, Abuja – 2016.

“Deputy Director of Operations Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC- 2016 – 2017.

“Director of Operations, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC – 2017-2020.”

He was also acting Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, between July 2020 through March 2021.

The statement also revealed that, “He is happily married with wonderful children.”
