Members of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control branch, on Monday, suspended their 41-day indefinite strike.
The union’s Secretary, Mr. Ayodeji Adetoboye, disclosed this in an interview
The health workers embarked on a strike on June 21, 2022 to protest, amongst other things, poor welfare packages and unpaid promotion arrears.
Speaking with our correspondent, Adetoboye said, “We just suspended the strike today (Monday). An agreement has been signed and it is expected that much should be done before year-end or the strike will continue.”
Adetoboye said the agreement was reached between the Minister of State for Health, Joseph Ekumankama, the NAFDAC management, the representatives of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the representatives of MHWUN.
The signed agreement obtained by our correspondent noted that “the union agreed to shift ground on the payment of 2021 promotion arrears. It is no longer a basis for the suspension of the strike but should be paid by September 2022. “The balance of the 20% hazard allowance should be paid to all staff immediately before the strike is suspended.
Our correspondent contacted NAFDAC’s Resident Media Consultant, Sayo Akintola, for comments, but he did not respond to calls or the text message sent to him as of the time of filing this report.
