Niger: APC stakeholders kick against imposition of LG party chairman

The Stakeholders Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suleja LGA of Niger State has kicked against the imposition of Idris B. Nana as the chairman of the party in the council.

Gambo Ibrahim had been leading the party for more than two years after the LG Party Congress in October 2021.

Rejecting the replacement of Ibrahim with Nana, the Forum cited a letter earlier issued by the state APC Working Committee in which it promised to communicate to the stakeholders on the matter.

“We regret to say this did not happen and instead they confirmed Idris B. Nana as the substantive APC Chairman of Suleja LGA against our resolution of dropping the two principal figures in contention.

“It s against the general interest of the majority of APC members and supporters in Suleja LGA,” the stakeholders said in a letter to the Working Committee.

They appealed for understanding and cooperation to salvage the situation by revising the matter and considering their earlier resolution of dropping the two principal actors in contention and adopting the option of bringing new persons to spearhead the affairs of the party in the LGA as the panacea for peaceful resolution of the crisis.

The Forum also argued that any action contrary to their resolution would confirm to them that the party has negative motives towards the people of Suleja LGA.

Also, the sacked Suleja APC chairman, Gambo Ibrahim in a press statement condemned the state APC chairman Aminu Bobi for what he described as his unguarded utterances against the party’s stakeholders in Suleja LGA.

He insisted that Bobi did not show leadership and maturity in his response to Suleja APC stakeholders.

The embattled council APC chairman declared, “I want to state here that I will be challenging my illegal removal as the substantive APC chairman of the Suleja Local Government by the SWC in a court of law”.
