The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Yobe State has intensified efforts to clamp down on drug peddlers operating in weekly markets across the state.

Yobe State Coordinator of the regulatory agency, Lawan Musa Dadingelma, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen, stating that the operation was part of the agency’s ongoing campaign to curb the illicit distribution and sales of unauthorized pharmaceuticals across the 17 LGAs of the state.

Dadingelma said that during a recent raid, “Numerous drugs were seized in line with NAFDAC’s commitment to upholding regulatory standards and safeguarding public health.”

Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Yobe State Command, has engaged youth in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The anti-narcotic agency, in partnership with Yobe State University, Damaturu, organized a sensitization seminar to commemorate the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, themed “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention.”

The agency’s Yobe State Commander, Abdulaziz Kayode Ogunboye, stressed that the exportation, sales, importation, and trafficking of psychoactive substances are offenses punishable by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Kayode stressed that youth are the future leaders of Nigeria, and hence all hands must be on deck to curb the menace of illicit drugs and trafficking in Yobe State.

The Vice Chancellor of Yobe State University, Prof Mala Mohammed Daura, commended the efforts of the NDLEA for choosing Yobe State University to host the programme.

Daura said the university would continue to partner with the NDLEA to curb the menace of drug abuse in the state and beyond.
