Police arrest suspected Delta cultist, recover Beretta pistol

SUSPECTOperatives of the Delta State Police Command on special assignment to the Ughelli area, led by ASP Julius Robinson, have arrested a suspected notorious cultist identified as Felix Egbe, aged 37 years of Oteri community in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a signed statement in Warri on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the police operatives, acting on credible intelligence on the peddling of arms and an intended cult clash within the Oteri community, on June 14, 2024 at about 1430hrs, trailed the suspected cultist said to be the mastermind of an intended cult clash, to a hotel in Ughelli.

Consequently, the statement noted, the operatives succeeded in arresting the suspected cult gang leader who is said to be a member of Eiye confraternity in the hotel.

Upon interrogation, the suspect who is also a former Youth Secretary of Oteri community, reportedly took the operatives to his residence where a Barretta pistol was recovered.

The police spokesman said an investigation was going on in the matter.

In another development, on June 18, 2024, at about 0120 hours, operatives of Aladja Police Out-station received a distress call that some suspected armed robbers were carrying out a robbery operation in the community.

Our correspondent learnt that the District Officer alongside members of the community mobilised to the scene where the suspects, Lucky Victor and Godbless Oghenevegba, both aged 20 years, were arrested at Igwere quarters, Aladja.

The PPRO affirmed that one locally made gun, cartridges, knife and a suspected stolen phone were recovered from the duo who are presently in custody while an investigation had commenced and was ongoing.

The statement further disclosed that on June 13, 2024, at about 1400hours, acting on credible information received on an outlet for the distribution of illicit hard drugs in Asaba, operatives from the CP Monitoring Unit responded and went to the scene where some suspects including Emeka Ozumu (49)  and Patrick Otukam (30) were arrested.

It was revealed that exhibits recovered from them comprised 13 bottles of codeine and  23 sachets of tramadol and other hard drugs.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for Delta State Command, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has urged youths to shun all forms of crime and also stay away from substance/drug abuse saying it is dangerous to their health and capable of pushing them to commit various crimes.

The CP noted that operatives of the Crack Squad, CP Monitoring Unit, and Raiders Squad had been deployed to crack down on all drug-peddling hideouts in the state and anyone found wanting would be arrested and charged to court.
