The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards paraded three suspects on Tuesday for allegedly stealing diesel from the TRIACTA Construction Company located along New GRA, Makurdi.
According to the Commander of BSCVG, Captain Ayuma Ajovbi (rtd), the suspects were arrested on Sunday night at the site close to the house of the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia.
“After the operatives of Volunteer Guards discovered that the suspects had siphoned diesel from the heavy-duty trucks into jerrycans and were making an attempt to transport them into a waiting vehicle, they were arrested,” Ajovbi stated.
While parading the suspects, Ajovbi described the act as a sabotage, stating that the operatives of the BSCVG were well-trained, noting that the arrest of the suspects was a testament to their efforts in the state.
The Commander added that the operatives were on the trail of four other suspects involved in the shady deal.
He assured the public that after investigation was concluded, they would be handed to the appropriate authority for prosecution.
Emmanuel Ogbu, the Intelligence Officer of BSCVG, told newsmen that one of the suspects, identified as Mohammed Adamu, was a black market dealer who attempted to bribe the operatives with N70,000.
The chief security officer of Triacta Construction Company, Benjamin Atsaga, also explained that the company had been experiencing such an act due to the connivance of staff who were later dismissed.
Atsaga said, “I am surprised to discover that the same person who was arrested on a similar crime for stealing and selling diesel is one of the suspects who was arrested today. He is a black marketer who has run afoul of the law many times.”
Two of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu and Peter Zaki, told journalists during the parade that they were invited by some staff members of the company before their arrest.
