Osun 2026: APC National Secretary, Basiru, PDP trade words

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ajibola Basiru has boasted that the party is getting set to take over power in Osun State, come 2026.

Basiru gave this insight during an address to APC members at a meeting in Osogbo on Friday.

While encouraging the Osun APC members to commence mobilising ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election, Basiru chided the state governor, Ademola Adeleke for not being truthful with urban renewal projects.

“The much-mouthed borehole per ward is a fluke. Any Government built on lies and propaganda is bound to crumble,” he said.

While sympathising with workers in the State for the alleged hardship they were subjected to, the APC national scribe queried the use of the first tranche of N2b palliative fund from the Federal Government.

“I sympathize with Osun workers for being subjected to more hardship. What has Adeleke done with the first tranche of N2b from the Federal Government when states such as Kwara, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Imo, Anambra Kano and even Kebbi with war-ravaged Borno have made workers smile in addition to their salaries?

“Has any Osun worker got as little as a cup from bags of rice Osun PDP got from the Federal Government? Allocation from the Federal Government to Osun has hugely increased. It is regrettable however that the increment has reflected neither in workers’ welfare nor tangible projects for the people,” he claimed.

Reacting, the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in a statement by its party chairman, Sunday Bisi advised Basiru to cease entertaining illusions of his party’s return to governance in the state.

Bisi also labeled the statement credited to the APC National Secretary as a fallacious illusion that is far from reality in Osun now or in any foreseeable future.

He said, “Basiru’s statement overlooks the commendable progress and positive transformations in Osun State under Governor Adeleke’s administration, after the good people of Osun emphatically discarded him and his useless tissues of political misfits, whose sole business was to loot and destroy the state.

“It is evident that Basiru is still reeling from the shock of his rejection in the elections. His recent statement only reaffirms his current state of heartache, ensnaring him in a colorless dream.

“Basiru’s assertions regarding APC’s resurgence to power in 2026 revealed his deficiency in grasping with the current state of affairs in Osun. His disregard for the ongoing positive transformations in the state further highlights his detachment from the needs and aspirations of the populace.

“In sane climes, Basiru has no business in governance as all he dreams was to use political office as a tool of oppression and garrulous showoffs. That is why his assertions are often off-track, self-serving, and patently irrational.

“The Governor has taken the initiative in keeping the public well-informed about the workings of the government as required in a democratic setting. Funds are being judiciously utilized for the good of the people contrary to the ego massaging administration of APC. Osun people are the kings of democracy and that pride of place remains non-negotiable.”

The Osun PDP chairman also accused Basiru of employing the politics of poverty in order to keep the people down to his apron of oppression.
