Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, ACPN, has declared that the Oyo state government has no right to seal any pharmacy in the State.
The association made this disclosure on Tuesday.
he Oyo State government, through its ministry of agriculture and rural development, had on Monday sealed one of the pharmacies in the State.
The State commissioner for agriculture and rural development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye in a statement made claimed that FinRel Pharmacy Supermarket and Bakery in Ibadan was sealed because it was operating an illegal veterinary pharmacy.
But, ACPN in its reaction, declared that it is wrong for the State government through the ministry of agriculture and rural development to seal the pharmacy.
ACPN Chairman in Oyo State, Mr. Adebayo Gbadamosi noted that drugs were under exclusive list, hence the State government or the ministry had no power to seal any pharmacy.
Gbadamosi, who spoke with DAILY POST Tuesday evening, called on Governor Seyi Makinde to wade in, so as to avoid breakdown of law and order.
He explained that the State government and veterinary doctors have no power to go to any pharmacy and seal it.
He described the action as illegal and unconstitutional.
Gbadamosi, in the telephone conversation, urged the State government not to allow itself to be used to cause a crisis in the State.
“Whatever they have done is illegal. It is illegal because pharmacies are under exclusive list.
“It is legislated by the federal government. Drugs, be it for animals or human beings is under exclusive list.
“Oyo State government should know that they are starting what may lead to breakdown of law and order.
“We have a Pharmacy Act which states that pharmacists have control of drugs be it for animals or human beings. They want to collide with the veterinary doctors to harass our members.
“They have no power to come to our premises. We are the one to check the veterinary doctors. We employ veterinary doctors in our pharmacies and it will affect them.
“Oyo State is allowing itself to be used. Veterinary doctors are blackmailing my members. How can the ministry of agriculture come and seal a pharmacy? It is totally wrong and illegal. Oyo State government has to be careful.”
