The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, and his counterpart from Kwara State, on Friday rejoiced with Muslim faith as they celebrate Eid-el-Maulud.
In his goodwill message, President Buhari urged Muslims to “practice the noble and shining virtues of the Prophet Muhammad,” saying, “the best way to honour him is to follow his good examples.”
In his goodwill message to Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad, the President explained that, “the prophet became famous for his life of humility, justice and fairness.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the President’s spokesman Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, quoted the Buhari as saying, “The Prophet attracted people to Islam through personal examples of honesty, trustworthiness, justice, patience and tolerance.
He urged politicians, in this season of elections, to avoid using expletives and cuss words, and to avoid the unwanted culture of demeaning and humiliating opponents.
Also, Obaseki, in a statement, urged Muslims in the state to use the occasion of the celebration to pray for the success of the 2023 general elections.
He said, “I congratulate Muslim faithful on the occasion of the celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W), as we mark this year’s Eid el-Maulud.
“The celebration offers us the opportunity for thoughtful reflection as we prepare for the 2023 general election.”
Similarly, the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRazaq, called on Muslim faithful to rededicate themselves to the commandments of Allah, including shunning all kinds of mischief which might disrupt public peace and human brotherhood.
The governor, while addressing a large gathering of Muslim Community, who converged on the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin, on Friday congratulated them on the birth anniversary of the Prophet Muhmmad, urging faithful to emulate the great examples and legacies of the prophet.
The annual Maulud celebration was organised by the Kwara State Muslim Council under the chairmanship of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
