The Sokoto State Police Command has said that suspected bandits have attacked Tangaza town in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state killing two and abducting unspecified number of people.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanusi Abubakar, told THISDAY in a telephone interview that as of now, the number of abductees is unspecified, stressing that police and other security agencies are on the trail of the assailants.
A resident of Tangaza, who craved anonymity, told THISDAY that three people were also injured during the attack.
He added that the injured are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while foodstuffs and drinks, among others, were reportedly carted away by the hoodlums.
He stated that the bandits launched the attack after evening (Magrib) prayers on Friday shooting sporadically and killing a shop owner on the spot and another, a young girl died in the hospital.
He lauded the timely intervention of security agencies alongside local vigilantes who were able to rescue one of the abductees while the bandits escaped with four others in the process.
He said: “They attacked shops along the road killing one of the shop owners in the process and made away with foodstuffs and drinks, among other valuables.
“They also kidnapped not less than five young children, while one of them was rescued by security guys who gave them a pursuit into the bush.”
