Guinness Nigeria says it has taken its Water of Life project to Angwan Albarka community in Nasarawa State as part of its commitment towards achieving the 2030 United Nations clean water and sanitation goal.

The firm stated that a mini-water project recently donated under the Diageo Africa Water of Life Programme would provide succour to over 50,000 residents of the community who for many years had the challenge of potable water.

The Head of Agribusiness, Guinness Nigeria, Mrs Jacquelyne Yawa, was quoted in a statement as saying, “For us and the people of Angwan Albarka community, this project marks an important milestone.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to the communities in which we source, make or sell our products, Guinness Nigeria has established several water schemes under the Diageo Africa Water of Life Programme, a project that provides access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities, thereby contributing to the social economic development of Nigeria.

“We have commissioned mini-water projects in several states including Abia, Rivers, Lagos, Ogun Niger, Nasarawa, Edo and Benue and we are happy that members of these communities appreciate our intervention.”

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, an Assistant Director and Acting Coordinator, CleanNigeria: Use the Toilet Campaign, Mrs Chizoma Opara, encouraged other multinationals to emulate the gesture of Guinness Nigeria by executing more expansive and inclusive Corporate Social Responsibility programmes that would bring relief to more Nigerians.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Samuel Akala, maintained that the state government would always support any initiative that would enhance the well-being of the people.

“We say a big thank you to Guinness Nigeria for putting together this wonderful initiative. The Agwan Albarka community will forever remain grateful. We promise to maintain this life changing facility,” he was quoted as saying.
